Welcome to the Bilingual Experience and Neurodevelopment Lab!
Mission
The Bilingual Experience & Neurodevelopment Lab studies how children learn language and develop literacy skills, with a special focus on multilingual learners. We combine research in speech-language development and brain science to better understand how language is processed in the brain and why some children have difficulties with language and reading. Our goal is to produce scientifically rigorous, translatable research that generates knowledge and tools to support families, educators, and clinicians in fostering multilingual children’s language and literacy success.
Vision
Our vision is a future where bilingual children are recognized for the richness of their language experiences and are supported with approaches that are both developmentally informed and culturally responsive. We aim to advance research and practice in partnership with families, educators, and clinicians to provide meaningful support so that multilingual learners can thrive in their home and community languages, literacy, and learning across home, school, and clinical contexts.
