The great Teachers College philosopher Maxine Greene died in 2014, but she continues to be a major presence in the education world. Witness 鈥淒reaming in Greene: Reframing Contemporary Educational Policy, Practice and Research through Maxine Greene鈥檚 Critical Lens,鈥 a special panel at this year鈥檚 meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in New York City.
The session, chaired by Carole Saltz, Director of Teachers College Press, will be held at this Friday, April 13th, from 12 to 1:30 at the New York Hilton Midtown in the Beekman Room on the second floor.
Greene, a past AERA president, would have turned 100 this year, but it is the continuing relevance of her ideas that will be addressed by panelists Wendy R. Kohli of Fairfield University, Linda Darling-Hammond of the Learning Policy Institute, William Ayers of the University of Illinois at Chicago and Janet Miller, 麻豆原创 Professor of English Education; and by discussants Gloria Ladson-Billings of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Michelle Fine of the City University of New York.
STILL BECOMING Greene remains a major focus in the education world.
In Greene鈥檚 own words, the group will 鈥渟peak out鈥bout the lacks that must be repaired, the possibilities to be acted upon in the name of what [we] deem decent, humane, and just.鈥
In addition, Miller will deliver the 2018 Egon Guba Lecture of AERA鈥檚 Qualitative Research Special Interest Group. She will speak on 鈥淧ost-Autobiographical Re-Turnings and Rationalities: Feminist, Curriculum, and Qualitative Inquiries鈥 on Sunday April 15th at 6:30 p.m. at the Marriot Marquis Hotel, on the fifth floor in the Westside Ballroom Salon 1.
BEYOND AUTOBIOGRAPHY Miller will deliver the Egon Guba lecture at AERA.
Miller was elected an AERA Fellow in 2010. In 2008 she received AERA鈥檚 Division B-Curriculum Studies Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2015, the Mary Anne Raywid Award, given by the Society of Professors of Education for 鈥渙utstanding contributions to education.鈥
