The 25th Annual African Diaspora International Film Festival (ADIFF) concludes its New York City run this weekend with screenings of several films on the Teachers College campus. Headlining the Â鶹ԭ´´ screenings by the festival, which is cosponsored by Â鶹ԭ´´'s Office of the Vice President for Diversity and Community Affairs, are:

 

Malcolm X: An Overwhelming Influence on the Black Power Movement, a documentary on the early life and legacy of the African-American Muslim minister and human rights activist. Showtime: Saturday, December 9th, at 3:30 pm in Milbank Chapel.  

 

Winnie, a complex portrait of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, who has been both exalted and demonized for her role in the ending of apartheid in South Africa' and the nation's transition to democracy. Showtimes: Friday, Dec. 8th at 8:30 pm in 179 Grace Dodge Hall; Saturday, Dec. 9, at 8:30 pm in Milbank Chapel.

ADIFF was founded and is directed by the the husband-and-wife team of former Â鶹ԭ´´ faculty member Reinaldo Spech and former Â鶹ԭ´´ budget director Diarah N’Daw-Spech, the three-week festival is co-sponsored by The College’s Vice President’s Office of Diversity and Community Affairs. The festival is an eclectic mix of foreign, independent, classic and urban films representing the global Black experience. Its mission is to “present these films to diverse audiences, redesign the Black cinema experience, and strengthen the role of African and African-descent directors in contemporary world cinema.”
