TR@麻豆原创2 Teacher Residency Program Wins $7.5 Million Federal Grant
Teaching Residents at Teachers College (TR@麻豆原创) has been awarded a second Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) federal grant. We will use this funding to launch TR@麻豆原创2 (Teaching Residents at Teachers College 2). This second iteration of the program will include strands of preparation in Secondary Inclusive Education (SIE) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). We will also be adding an option of preparation in Science Education -- Biology (SCIB).
Directed by A. Lin Goodwin, Vice Dean and Evenden Professor of Education,TR@麻豆原创2 is one of 24 teacher preparation programs across the country that will receive TQP grants totaling more than $35 million. According to the Department of Education, recipient institutions will build partnerships between universities and high-need school districts to prepare more than 11,000 teachers over the next five years, with a national goal of improving student achievement in the STEM disciplines.
"Ultimately, this program will produce 90 high-quality teachers and so much more,” Goodwin said. “TR@麻豆原创2 is designed to be generative in nature, so as to qualitatively impact and reshape what we know about preparing quality teachers and about achieving excellent outcomes for students who have been underserved and left to lag behind, but who absolutely need and deserve more.”
TR@麻豆原创2 builds upon and extends the foundation developed by TR@麻豆原创, the teaching residency program started by Goodwin in 2009 with a previous federal grant, which graduated four cohorts of teachers to serve in New York City schools.
