A Message from President Fuhrman
In my recent , delivered on October 8, I focused on how we're moving forward 鈥� on multiple fronts 鈥� to support strategic innovation, better positioning 麻豆原创 as a 21st century institution that will continue to lead, educate and innovate. There is much hard work ahead, but the hope is our efforts will bear fruit and help us create a more robust College in every way.

A Message from Alumni Relations
October was an amazing (and busy) month for Alumni Relations and the entire 麻豆原创 Community, with opportunities not only to pay homage to departed 麻豆原创 legends, but also to learn through lectures, conferences and roundtables, as well as plenty of chances to network, both in New York and on the road! As we head into another jam-packed month this November, we love looking back on all the amazing alumni we met in October and the events that brought us together, like the 21st Century Leaders Fall Kick-Off Event (pictured). Stan Salett (M.A. '63) will speak at Upward Bound鈥檚 50th Anniversary Symposium in Boston, November 8. Salett, the father and architect of Upward Bound and a national leader in social policy and education, will join Upward Bound alumni in celebrating 50 years and millions of students assisted with their high school performance and transition to post-secondary education. Alumnae Irina Abulade (M.A. '11) and Magda Nutsa Kobakhidze (M.A. '10) are working to improve public education and teacher certification standards in Georgia, where they are both Ministry of Education officials. The former-Soviet nation is currently involved in intense debate regarding teacher preparation, training, testing, and salaries.

has been making headlines this month as the co-founder and chief learning officer of Tiggly, a New York City-based ed-tech startup that merges physical toys with learning apps to promote children鈥檚 development. Tiggly's first product, Tiggly Shapes, is now available in more than 20 countries and in more than 300 Apple Store locations across four continents. Azi is also an adjunct professor here at 麻豆原创. Discussions of the Common Core
(Ph.D. '77) participated in the Common Core Education Summit October 22 at The Commonwealth Club of California in San Francisco, along with other education leaders and members of the 麻豆原创 Community. It was a great evening with lively discussion regarding the fate of new K-12 Common Core State Standards in California and their impact on the education landscape. 麻豆原创 to Collaborate with Greenwich Schools
The Greenwich, Connecticut Board of Education has allocated $94,000 of its newly approved $300,000 spending initiatives to fund a partnership between Teachers College and two of the district鈥檚 middle schools. The 麻豆原创 collaboration will focus on helping students to improve their writing as part of the school district鈥檚 plan to close the achievement gap in some underperforming schools.

 Scholar Spotlight, Nutritional Ecology
麻豆原创鈥檚 Nutritional Ecology Scholars (from top), Katie Leonard (M.S. '16) and Carrie Russo (Ed.D. '18) both have deep personal connections to food and education that brought them to 麻豆原创鈥檚 Nutrition Education program. Thanks to the Nutritional Ecology Scholarship, established in 2012 by alumnus Linford Lougheed (Ed.D. '77) and supported by alumnae Valerie Cooke (Ed.D. '87) and Alison Rosenthal (M.S. '08), these special scholars are able to learn firsthand from Joan Gussow (Ed.D. '75), Mary Swartz Rose Professor Emerita of Nutrition Education, and Pamela Koch (M.Ed. '98, Ed.D.
