Roy M. Goodman, former New York State Senator and husband of the late Teachers College Trustee Emerita Barbara Goodman (M.A. ’54), has passed away at the age of 84. Among the last of a powerful group of liberal New York Republicans who were ascendant during the 1960s, Goodman represented Manhattan’s East Side for 33 years, supporting legal abortion, rent regulations and gay rights and opposing the death penalty. At Teachers College, where Barbara Goodman served as Board Chair from 1980 through 1991, the Goodmans were early supporters of technology advancement, donating the funds that created our Goodman Room and Goodman Family Computer Classroom.
