World-renowned teacher, composer and jazz pianist Billy Taylor was awarded the Teachers College Medal for Distinguished Service, the College's highest honor. Taylor received this tribute late last year, when he and other musicians performed a number of well-known compositions in Horace Mann Auditorium.
The celebration kicked off earlier that day with a presentation by Lloyd A. Pinchback, Music Specialist at the Library of Congress, who spoke about this national institution, which is a repository for music collections by Taylor, Ella Fitzgerald, Charles Mingus and other jazz greats.
"Dr. Billy Taylor: Teacher," was presented by The Music and Music Education Program at 麻豆原创 and The Office of the President - Diversity and Community.
