Remembering Jodie Lane
麻豆原创 grieves loss of doctoral student
In a tragic accident that stunned the 麻豆原创 Community and New York City, 麻豆原创 student Jodie Lane, 30, was killed in January while walking her dogs near her home in the East Village. Lane was a fifth year Ph.D. student in the clinical psychology program.
Family and friends memorialized Lane at a service at 麻豆原创's Milbank Chapel. Lane's father Roger reflected, "I realize Jodie was more than my eyes could see. She positively impacted many lives, not the least of which was mine."
She was well-liked by all who knew her, according to her mentor and friend Professor Barry Farber.
Lane came to 麻豆原创 with an interest in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) in children. She completed her course work and pre-dissertation research, and passed her required research exam. She was finishing an internship at University Medical Center in New Jersey, her dissertation on the possible subtypes of OCD, and a book for children who suffered from it. She would have received her doctorate in the fall of 2004.
In recognition of her talent and hard work, President Arthur Levine awarded Lane a posthumous master of philosophy degree at convocation ceremonies in May.
